Growing Our Town Together:
The Mount Jackson Economic Development Authority (EDA) is a group of five dedicated volunteers, appointed by the Town Council, who are passionate about building a brighter future for Mount Jackson. The EDA are your neighbors, your friends, and members of the community, working hard to promote the public interest, safety, health, welfare, convenience, and prosperity of all our citizens.
Think of the EDA as Mount Jackson's growth engine--focused on attracting new businesses, supporting existing ones, and creating opportunities for everyone who calls Mount Jackson home. The EDA is committed to fostering sustainable growth that preserves our small-town charm.
What We Do:
The EDA plays a vital role in Mount Jackson's economic development. One of the key functions is the ability to issue revenue bonds for industrial and other beneficial development projects, as authorized by the Code of Virginia. This tool allows the EDA to finance projects that might otherwise be out of reach, bringing new jobs and investment to our town.
It's important to understand that the EDA acts as the issuing agent for these bonds. This means facilitating the process, but the EDA itself doesn't incur any financial obligations to the Town. Instead, the Town benefits from application fees paid by those seeking bond financing. These fees contribute directly to supporting town services and initiatives.
Meet the Team:
Our seven-member board is comprised of local residents who bring a diverse range of skills and experience to the table. To ensure close collaboration, the Town Council has representation on the EDA, with one council member currently serving (out of a possible three). This connection helps us align our efforts with the town's overall vision. Our dedicated Town Clerk also serves as the Executive Secretary of the Authority, providing invaluable support and continuity.
