Parks and Playgrounds
Mount Jackson boasts a variety of parks and playgrounds to suit all ages and interests. Mayors Park, located near Town Hall, is a lovely spot featuring brick walkways, benches, a gazebo, and a free book library. It is the home to seasonal events and happenings in our community, such as musical gatherings and outdoor vendor markets.
Our crown jewel is Town Park, also known as Lions Park, which features a swimming pool, playground spaces, basketball courts, athletic fields, a walking path, picnic areas, and more. We recently acquired an additional 4 acres of land to expand Lions Park (known as the Baker Parcel), and exciting plans are in the works! Learn more about the details and plans for new amenities, including new restrooms, a splash pad, a disc golf course, and even more playgrounds by reading through our Master Park & Pedestrian Connectivity Plan.
Expected in 2026 - Red Banks Park & River Access (located along Red Banks Road!) will boast 11-acres of pedestrian trails, a pavilion, ample parking for enjoying the Shenandoah River, and easy access for fishing and swimming!
Looking Ahead - We expect to open Triplett Park behind the Shenandoah County Community Center right downtown! A 3-year grant received by the Town of Mount Jackson will allow for increasing parking, adding a playground, walking trail, multi-use field and other quality of life amenities. We do not expect to break ground on this park until further into our 10-year Master Park & Pedestrian Plan!
Mount Jackson's BARK PARK is Open! You asked for it, and we listened! Remember that town-wide survey we did back in September 2023? One thing that really barked at us was the need for a dedicated dog park. We know Town Park is a beloved spot, but it just wasn't the right fit for all those happy pups. We are thrilled to announce that the Mount Jackson Bark Park officially opened in June 2025 and is now ready for you and your furry friends! Located at that triangular-shaped parcel along Orkney Drive and King Street, it's a paw-sitively amazing place for pups to play.
Here's what you and your canine companion can expect at the BARK PARK:
-
A fenced-in area: Designated spaces for both big and small dogs to run, play, and make new friends safely.
-
Agility equipment: To keep those tails wagging and those minds engaged.
-
Benches and water stations: For humans and pups to relax and rehydrate.
In addition to the park itself, we're also planning additional improvements to the surrounding area:
-
Roadway upgrades: To make sure everyone can get to and from the park safely.
-
A sidewalk extension: Along King Street, making it even easier to walk to the park.
Come on down and see why this much-needed amenity has already become a favorite spot in Mount Jackson!
