Welcome to Mount Jackson Parks and Recreation! We're here to help you find your fun and make the most of our charming town. Whether you're a lifelong resident or just visiting, we have something for everyone.
Parks and Playgrounds
Mount Jackson boasts a variety of parks and playgrounds to suit all ages and interests. Mayors Park, located near Town Hall is a lovely park featuring brick walkways, benches, a gazebo and free book library is the home to seasonal events and happenings in our community (musical gatherings as well as outdoor vendor markets). Our crown jewel is Town Park, also known as Lions Park, features a swimming pool, playground spaces, basketball courts, athletic fields, a walking path, picnic areas, and more. We recently acquired additional 4-acres of land to expand Lions Park (known as the Baker Parcel) and exciting plans are in the works! All of our town parks are open dawn to dusk.

Hey Mount Jackson! Your input is incredibly valuable, and we're excited to invite you to participate in our community survey, running throughout June. This is your chance to directly influence the future of programs, events, and classes offered through our Parks and Recreation department and right here at the Mount Jackson Community Library.
We want to hear your ideas! What kind of events would you love to see at our parks? What classes pique your interest? What programs would make our library even more vibrant? This brief, 11-question survey is designed to gather your preferences and help us tailor our offerings to best serve your community. Your participation is a key step in ensuring our public spaces and services are responsive to what you, our residents, truly desire. Plus, as a thank you for your time, all respondents who include their name and contact information will receive a complimentary one-day pass to the Mount Jackson Pool!

Beyond Town Park...DISCOVER the JackTown Bark Park!
You asked for it, and we listened! Remember that town-wide survey we did back in September 2023? One thing that really barked at us was the need for a dog park. We know Town Park is a beloved spot, but it just wasn't the right fit for all those happy pups. So, we've found the perfect spot: that triangular-shaped parcel along Orkney Drive and King Street. It's going to be paw-sitively amazing! The Jacktown Bark Park is officially scheduled to open on Saturday, June 28, 2025!
To celebrate this exciting new addition to our community, you're invited to join us for the Bark Park PAW-ty on King Street from 12 noon to 3 pm! Bring your furry best friend (and their humans, of course!) for an afternoon packed with fun. We'll have delicious pup cups for our four-legged friends, fantastic giveaways you won't want to miss, special guests, and some cool giveaways to mark the occasion. Let's come together and celebrate a new space where our pups can play and we can all connect. We can't wait to see you and your amazing dogs there!
Here's what you can expect at our BARK PARK:
- A fenced-in area: For both big and small dogs to run, play, and make new friends.
- Benches and water stations: For humans and pups to relax and rehydrate.
But that's not all! We're also exploring some additional improvements down the road.... (literally)
- Roadway/parking upgrades to King Street: To make sure everyone can get to and from the park safely.
- A sidewalk extension: Along King Street, making it even easier to walk to the park.
The CREW Community Center
Mark your calendars! The brand-new CREW Community Center is set to open its doors in spring 2025, offering a wealth of recreational opportunities for people of all ages. This state-of-the-art facility will be a hub for fitness, wellness, and community events. We can't wait to welcome you inside!
Shenandoah County Recreation
Mount Jackson is part of Shenandoah County, and that means you have access to a whole world of recreational opportunities beyond our town limits. The Shenandoah County Recreation Department offers a variety of programs and events throughout the year, so be sure to check out their website or contact them for more information.
