Exciting news for Mount Jackson and Shenandoah County! We're thrilled to announce the upcoming development of Red Banks Park, a beautiful new river park along the Shenandoah River! In 2024, the Town of Mount Jackson acquired 11.6 acres of pristine land along Daniel Gray Road, creating a fantastic opportunity for our community and visitors to connect with the natural beauty of our area.
This exciting project will create an official, public river access point, offering a range of recreational opportunities for everyone to enjoy. Imagine spending sunny afternoons picnicking by the river, launching your canoe or kayak for a peaceful paddle, or exploring scenic walking trails – all within the heart of our community!
What's Coming to Red Banks Park?
Red Banks Park is currently in the planning stages, with our dedicated staff working closely with the talented team at Snarr Engineering and Inspection Services, PLC to develop a comprehensive conceptual site plan. We're committed to creating a space that enhances our community and showcases the stunning natural beauty of the Shenandoah River.
The park will feature a variety of amenities, including:
- Easy pedestrian access to the river
- A convenient canoe and kayak launch
- Scenic walking trails for leisurely strolls
- Ample parking for visitors
- Designated picnic areas perfect for family outings
- Informative interpretive signage to learn about the local ecology and history
Working Towards Our Vision
We're dedicated to making Red Banks Park a reality and have applied for a $220,000 grant in 2025 to help fund the development of the trails and park amenities. We have one year after receiving the funding to finalize the park, and our team is working diligently to ensure everything is in place for an exceptional recreational experience.
Project Completion Goal:
