About Town Hall: Your Community Hub
Have you ever wondered about that beautiful building right in the heart of town? That's our amazing Town Hall, and it's so much more than just offices! It's a place where community happens, history comes alive, and everyone feels welcome.
Our story begins back in 1998, when Mayor Joseph Williams had a vision: to bring new life to Mount Jackson's Main Street. He knew our downtown had so much potential, and he wanted to make it a place everyone could be proud of.
To help make that vision a reality, the town teamed up with the Community Design Assistance Center of Virginia Tech. They didn't just come up with ideas on their own – they talked to you! Through surveys and workshops, everyone had a chance to share their thoughts and dreams for our town.
Virginia Tech's recommendations were spot on. They suggested a new town hall right in the center of town, along with beautifying Main Street with trees and highlighting our rich history. And guess what? We did it!
Today, we have the William and Ken Byrd Holtzman Visitors Center and Town Hall at 5901 Main Street – a true community gem. The building, designed to remind us of an old train station (how cool is that?), is home to so many important things:
- Your Friendly Faces: You'll find our town's administrative offices here, where our dedicated team works hard to keep Mount Jackson running smoothly.
- Protecting and Serving: Our police department is also located here, keeping our community safe and sound.
- Pages of Adventure: Our library branch is here, too, inviting you to explore new worlds and discover new knowledge.
- Stepping Back in Time: The museum calls Town Hall home as well, showcasing the stories and artifacts that make Mount Jackson so special.
- Visitor Central: The central hallway proudly serves as a Certified Visitors Center, welcoming folks and sharing all the wonderful things our town has to offer.
- Gathering Place: Downstairs, you'll find a large meeting room and an annex of the museum, perfect for community events and gatherings.
And outside? Beautiful green space surrounds the building; MAYORS PARK is complete with a gazebo and benches. You might even catch some local musicians playing a tune or two!
This incredible center wouldn't be possible without the generous support of Transportation Enhancement (TEA) grants and matching funds from our amazing community partners: the Mount Jackson Community Library, the Mount Jackson Museum, William Paxton, Gordon Bowman, and William B. Holtzman. Thank you all for making this dream a reality!
The William and Ken Byrd Holtzman Visitors Center and Town Hall is more than just a building; it's the heart of our community. Come visit us, explore, and discover all that makes Mount Jackson such a special place! We can't wait to see you!
