Important Information about Your Tax Bills:
Your Personal Property and Real Estate tax information is provided to us by Shenandoah County and is based on the information you have on file with the DMV. It's very important to keep your DMV information up-to-date to ensure accurate tax billing.
The Town of Mount Jackson only bills ONCE a year. Tax bills are mailed around November 14th and are due January 31st. To avoid a $50 DMV stop fee, please ensure your personal property taxes are paid by the due date. DMV stops for delinquent accounts are placed around February 28th and are not vehicle specific. If you have a DMV stop due to delinquent taxes, rest assured it will be lifted within 24 hours of payment.
Tax Rates:
- Personal Property Tax: $1.00 per $100 assessed value
- Real Estate Tax: $0.16 per $100 assessed value
Other Local Taxes & Fees:
- Car Decals: $25 annually (cars), $15 annually (motorcycles), $10 annually (trailers). Decals are not replaced each year. These amounts are included on your personal property tax bill.
- Cigarette Tax: $0.45/pack; $0.25/pack (less than 20 cigarettes); $25 per roll (Registered Agent Discount)
- Motel Tax: 6%
- Meals Tax: 7%
