The Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has issued a drought warning advisory for Shenandoah County. The Town of Mount Jackson is requesting voluntary water restrictions be adhered to by all town residents. Voluntary water restrictions are defined as: The public and businesses are asked to take specific measures to conserve water on a voluntary basis. There are no penalties or sanctions for failure to follow such measures. However, the public and businesses will be informed that should conditions worsen, one or more of these measures could become mandatory and enforceable.
Examples of activities that should be limited:
Outdoor
• Lawn watering
• Car washing
• Washing sidewalks
• Ornamental fountains
• Filling swimming pools
• Fire hydrant usage other than for health and safety purposes
Indoor
• Take showers instead of baths
• Only wash clothes/dishes when filled to capacity
• Turn off water when brushing teeth, shaving, or shampooing
• If possible utilize low flow toilets or flow restricting shower heads
• Repair leaking or dripping faucets immediately
