Water

The Town of Mount Jackson owns and operates four wells that supply potable water to its customers. Well water is disinfected using liquid chlorine and contact tanks. The town uses a Nitrate Removal Filtering System for one of the wells. The town maintains three water storage tanks that has a combined volume of 1.5 million gallons.

The source water for the facility is from the North Fork Shenandoah River. The drinking water system is permitted to deliver 742,000 gallons of drinking water per day. The facility is currently staffed by four waterworks operators, licensed and certified by the Commonwealth of Virginia.

The Town’s drinking water quality meets rigorous standards established and monitored by the Virginia Department of Health, The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality and United States Environmental Protection Agency. We encourage you to read the Consumer Confidence Reports that provide you with valuable information on our water quality.
